Pictou
The Town of Pictou, Nova Scotia, is located on the beautiful Northumberland Shore. It is renowned as the "Birthplace of New Scotland" as it was here that the first Scottish immigrants landed in 1773. Pictou is the best place to experience old-world charm and culture meeting present-day hospitality. Just a couple hours drive from Cape Breton, Truro and the New Brunswick border, Pictou is an ideal and picturesque spot from which to base your vacation.
Pictou is home to the full sized replica of the tall ship Hector, a three-masted sailing ship that brought the original settlers to Pictou in 1773. There is always something happening at the Hector National Exhibit Centre to view displays by local artisans. There are always local historians on hand as well as local musicians that will be more than happy to share a tune. Visit the McCulloch House Museum, an interactive exhibit that shares the story of the different groups who settled in Nova Scotia. The Northumberland Fisheries Museum preserves the rich sea heritage and culture of the Northumberland Strait.
