Does watching the Masters on television make your heart pang for warmer summer nights, hitting the greens, and playing a round of golf? Even driving ranges and miniature golf can be fun, especially for learners and families. Since golf is a Scottish innovation it should come as no surprise that Nova Scotia – New Scotland in other words – is brimming with opportunities for golfers.
Digby Pines
There is more to do in Digby than visit the world famous Scallop Festival, although don’t come here and miss the seafood! For golfers, Digby features Digby Pines, a challenging 18-hole course that captures the beautiful scenery of Nova Scotia. Hit the greens and smell the salty air. Twilight packages are available for tee offs of 3pm or later.
Eden Golf & Country Club
Looking for a little piece of sweet spot paradise? Then come to Paradise, Nova Scotia in the breathtaking Annapolis Valley, east of Bridgetown on Highway 201. Eden features a well stocked Pro Shop, including major brand-name golf equipment. And, since being created in 1941, Eden Golf & Country Club continues to rank as one of Nova Scotia’s best nine-hole golf courses. Short and sweet, right to the sweet spot.
Ken-Wo Country Club
Situated midway between Kentville and Wolfville (ergo the name Ken-Wo) in the town of New Minas is Ken-Wo Country Club. This immaculate course dates to 1921, and has been a staple of the Annapolis Valley golfing circuit for decades. 18-holes, over 6,300 yards, make this challenging course a full pursuit. Nevertheless, Ken-Wo is dedicated to providing a quality golf experience for all skill levels, so from beginners to seasoned swingers, don’t miss these greens.
Highlands Links
As the northernmost golf course in Nova Scotia, Highlands Links does a wonderful job capturing the spendour of the jaw-dropping Cape Breaton National Park. The design of the course is “Mountains and Oceans” and for 60 years golfers have been getting just that. This course is an 18-hole, par 72. Doing the Cabot Trail? Bring the clubs and swing by Highlands Links.
Le Portage Golf Club
Also situated in Cape Breaton, in the historically-Acadian town of Chéticamp, Le Portage Golf Club is an 18-hole course with a front and back nine, so you can choose the length of game that is perfect for you. With great courses like Le Portage Golf Club and the Highlands Links, you can easily plan an entire golf vacation while taking in one of North America’s most revered road trips, the Cabot Trail.
Fox Harbour
The Sunrise Trail is one of Nova Scotia’s best kept secrets. Straddling the Northumberland Strait, the warm salt waters and gentle beaches give way to rolling green country side, less than two hours from Halifax. Here is where you can find Fox Harbour, voted Best New Course 2001 by Golf Digest. Fox Harbour, overlooking the water, is waves of excitement for golfers of all levels and handicap. Not to be confused with the equally delightful Fox Hollow golf course located closer to Halifax.
Lost Creek
Less than 30-minutes from core Halifax, Lost Creek begs to be played by golfers of all acumens. With 18 holes, and a par-71 ranking, Lost Creek is a newer course with beautiful woodland and lake vistas. Strategic fairway traps will challenge you. The second hole starts from an island in the middle of a lake, adding challenge to a short par-3 course. Hole 5 features an island green and is one of the club’s signature holes.
